MVC’s work is based on a four-step approach to building political effectiveness; we call this the Cycle of Accountability:
- We unify the voice of the environment in Missouri: MVC builds connections within the conservation community, helps diverse groups create a common legislative agenda, and encourages the community to speak with one voice;
- We lobby in the state Capitol: MVC works to pass both environmental legislation and ballot initiatives that protect Missouri’s natural resources and creates a clean energy future;
- We hold policy-makers accountable: MVC’s bi-annual Conservation Scorecard tracks legislators’ voting records, thereby holding our elected leaders accountable for their votes on the environment;
- We elect good leaders: MVC endorses and supports pro-environment candidates for the state House and Senate, and works to unseat legislators who consistently vote against Missouri’s environment.
Our accomplishments include:
- Net metering, which incentivizes renewable energy installations;
- Proposition C, which calls on electric utilities to source 15% of their power from wind and solar energy by 2021;
- PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy), which helps building owners finance costly energy retrofits and renewable installations.
